ProMarket’s first-ever Chart of the Week comes from a new paper that studies the underrepresentation gap of ethnic minorities in local US politics.

In a new paper, Francesco Trebbi (University of California, Berkeley) and Federico Ricca (Vancouver School of Economics) study the representation of ethnic minorities on local councils relative to the proportion of their population using data spanning from 1981 to 2018. They find that on average, non-White minorities are underrepresented by approximately 8.4 percentage points.
