Shaghayegh (Shay) Pourvosoughi is a Ph.D. candidate in Finance at Rutgers Business School. Her research interests are empirical corporate finance, corporate governance, behavioral finance, regulations and policies, and financial markets and institutions. More specifically, she has studied the impact of employee ratings on CEO compensation, gender bias in small business bankruptcy outcomes, and the effect of corporate tax introductions on financial leverage.

Women-Owned Firms Are Pushed to Liquidate During Bankruptcy

New research by Hosein Maleki, Mahsa Kaviani, Simi Kedia, and Shay Pourvosoughi shows that women-owned firms are less likely to get a second chance after filing for bankruptcy and that the gap between male- and female-owned firm filings widens when courts are overloaded.
