Selçukhan Unekbas

Selcukhan Unekbas is a postdoctoral researcher at the European University Institute (EUI) and a Research Fellow at the Tusher Strategic Initiative for Technology Leadership at UC Berkeley's Haas School of Business. Selcukhan received his PhD from the EUI, and has been trained as a jurist in Italy, Belgium, and Turkey. Prior to joining EUI, Selcukhan practiced antitrust law at a leading international law firm. His work has appeared in generalist and specialist journals in law and economics. Since 2022, Selcukhan has been a Fellow of the Dynamic Competition Initiative (DCI), an inter-university platform interested in advancing the study of competitiveness, industrial policy, and innovation.

The EU Draft Merger Guidelines’ Treatment of Capabilities Needs Revisiting

The European Commission draft merger guidelines reorient merger analysis to focus on “capabilities”: how firms compete in current markets and pivot to future ones.
