Hee-Seung Yang

Hee-Seung Yang is a professor in the School of Economics at Yonsei University. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California, San Diego, and previously held faculty positions at the KDI School of Public Policy & Management and Monash University. His research lies at the intersection of labor economics and development economics, focusing on how public policies affect individual behavior and labor market outcomes. His work examines issues related to education, migration, demographic change, and labor market dynamics across both developing and advanced economies.

In new research, Jongkwan Lee, Giovanni Peri, and Hee-Seung Yang assess the effects of a sudden reduction in immigrant workers in South Korea. They find that migrant workers were not easily replaceable by natives, resulting in operational disruptions and firm closures.
