Blake Jackson

Blake Jackson is an assistant professor of finance at The Ohio State University whose research focuses on private equity, venture capital, and entrepreneurship. His ongoing research in private equity and alternative asset classes aims to understand how professional investors make decisions and why some persistently perform better than others when investing in financial markets. Blake’s research has been featured in The Economist and Financial Times. He teaches investments classes at Ohio State. He received his PhD from the University of Florida, where he also received his undergraduate degree, and was a visiting PhD student at Stanford’s Graduate School of Business.

In new research, Blake Jackson and Ilya Strebulaev track the careers of 100,000 people working at venture capital firms in the United States to ask which investors succeed and why. They find that five percent of VCs generate 90 percent of the industry's profits, that the backgrounds investors bring with them predict who ends up in that group, and that public recognition itself opens the doors to the deals that keep them at the top.
