Leszek Balcerowicz

Leszek Balcerowicz is a professor at the SGH Warsaw School of Economics in Warsaw (SGH), Poland. He played a central role in Poland’s post-communist economic transformation, serving as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance in 1989–1991 and again in 1997–2000. From 2001 to 2007, he served as Governor of the National Bank of Poland. He has also been active in international policy circles, including the Group of Thirty, and is the founder of the Polish think tank Civic Development Forum. His research and policy interests focus on macroeconomic stabilisation in transition economies, the institutional foundations of growth, and the role of economic freedom in development.
